  • Questions You Need To Ask Yourself:

What part of your golf game are you trying to work on?

Backyard Putting Green - how long of putt do you want?

Chipping, and how far away from the green?

Sand trap, who much lower to the surface of the putting green?

Driver and iron shots, you can also utilize a part of the fringe by placing the net in the opposite direction of the putting green?

Putting Green Contour, how much rise or fall do you want?

You should analyze the rise and fall that you're trying to simulate by visiting your favorite greens on your local golf course. ( +  or  -  ____” of rise or drop in _____ ft. Take a piece of string with 2 long nails at each end. Stretch it across the putting green and stick the nails in. Then use a tape measure to determine the measurements you need)

    The Layout: (Putting Green Design)

Laying out your practice putting green area is a key to getting exactly what you need to help you improve your golf game.

Putting green material is normally manufactured in two widths 12' and 15'. Also keep in mind that you will need to trim off a few inches on each side (12' material becomes roughly 11.5').

Your backyard putting green design is only limited to your imagination. To help in you layout your putting green we recommend you take some rope, garden hose, or even landscaping paint and shape it to the size of your desired putting green area.

Keep it in mind that you might want to add fringe to one side, or completely surrounding it.

Consider if you're going to put sand traps, chipping areas, or tee boxes into your plan.
